Information and communication Technology has become the key tool and had a revolutionary impact on how we see the world and how we live. ICTs have the potential to innovate, accelerate, enrich, and deepen skills, to motivate and engage students, to help relate school experience to work practices, create economic viability for tomorrow’s workers, as well as strengthening teaching and helping schools change (Davis and Tearle, 1999.,Lemke and Coughlin, 1998; cited by Yusuf, 2005). The field of education has been affected by ICTs, which have undoubtedly affected teaching, learning, and research (Yusuf, 2005). Today, the place of ICTs in education and the world in general cannot be undermined (Apagu & Wakili, 2015).
My lesson was on teaching the ‘Names of Polygons’ to class III students. Before introducing the names, I let them watch a video song. I also instructed them to pay special attention to the names and the number of sides each polygon has. After watching the video I asked the names of polygons that they could grasp from the video. I let them watch for the second time. Together we discussed the names according to the number of sides. Then introduced the topic.
In the lesson development, I introduced them the names of eight polygons on the chalkboard. I called out children from each group to pick up the correct shape for the names given on the board.
In the closure I provided a worksheet to each group to write the correct name for the given polygons. Finally they were asked to copy the names of polygon table given in their textbook.
In this lesson I could easily achieve my lesson objective. One amazing thing I noticed in this lesson was that children could remember the names spontaneously. They seemed to have enjoyed the lesson so much.
One area that I felt I could have done in a better way was in the closure part. I should have made enough worksheets for all the students instead of one in each group because I saw few not participating in the teamwork.
Never the less integration of ICTs in teaching and learning process can greatly revitalize both teacher and learners. The shift of paradigm in pedagogy from teacher to learner centered preparing them to face the challenges of 21st century. Teachers act as a guide and facilitator whereas learners are held responsible for their own learning. Learners become immersed in the process of leaning as they use computers as information source and cognitive tools.

Madam,
ReplyDeleteYou have really inspired us as how to incorporate ICT in our teaching processes. By looking at short viedo clips and photos I understood that children are learning better than our traditional method of teaching and I can also feel that children are enjoying. keep going.
Thank u so much for your motivating words. Yes they do enjoy lessons with ICT inyegration. 21st century kids learn faster with 21st century pedgogy.
DeleteMaam,
ReplyDeleteseems you have done quie a lot of researches to teach this lesson. It is nice to see you have rich references...
Thank u sir.
DeleteI too felt that it’s must for 21st century learners and it’s evident that children show more interest in learning through ICT.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely correct! Learners of 21st century learn faster with 21st century pedagogies.
